The Monumental 35th…

The last few weeks I’ve been anticipating my birthday. I usually love birthday’s, espcially mine! For some reason, I felt a little differently this year. I’ll admit I don’t look my age, I don’t act my age, and I don’t feel my age. I look like I’m 20, I think I act like I’m 30, I feel like I’m 25. And then reality sets in and I’m 35.

Thirty-five. Thirty-freaking-five.

For the first time I cried about turning another year older. I don’t think it’s the actual age, but this year’s birthday seemed to be a trigger for self reflection. Taking a step back and really understanding where I’m at in life. What I’m doing with it and where I’m going.

Things seemed pretty heavy and depressing for a couple of days before my big day. I woke up with a stomach ache and the thought of my 35th gave me butterflies. (Not the good kind)

My friends asked and would tell me I have no reason to be sad or upset about turning 35. They were right. I don’t. I I have been blessed with a beautiful daughter. I have been able to experience motherhood and have loved every minute of it. I know I have so much to be thankful for.

After thoughts, pondering, and soul searching, for me, it boils down to these things:

  • We live once. We have one life to create our own happiness.
  • Find a career or establish a career that you love. We spend most of our life working to live. We might as well do what our hearts desire and especially find happiness in it.
  • I want to find something where I can incorporate my passion and talents and use them to the fullest. I’m still searching but am more determined than ever.
  • Time is precious and goes by too quickly.
  • Keep those close to you closer. It’s so easy to get comfortable with those you’re around all the time. Take the time and do thoughtful things for your loved ones.
  • Don’t be so careless. It seems like today’s society is teaching our peers that “oh, it’s okay” or “it doesn’t matter” attitude is okay. It’s not okay. It lessens ones character and doesn’t teach our youth or generations younger than us what it’s like to be a genuine and solid person.
  • Don’t be lazy.
  • Take chances.
  • Learn from your mistakes and actually don’t repeat them.
  • Don’t be afraid to really know yourself. Figure out who you are, what you love/hate, don’t be someone else because of culture, preer pressure, or being afraid. Stand tall and be proud.
  • Don’t take things for granted.
  • Don’t let the “culture” play mind games with your head. It’s okay to be 35, not be married, not have your own home yet, and not have that dream job. (Man, saying all of that sounds depressing!) But it’s okay! Those are things that I can still gain and have plenty of time to do so.
  • Be happy. Sounds simple, but I’m finding it’s very hard for people to be truly happy. Especially with themselves.

I have read and re-read these things and know I could add to this list. I think everyone has those “mid-life” crisis moments and self reflection where we have to put ourselves back in check.

I am very happy to have such wonderful friends and family who really support me and love me throughout this thing called LIFE.

I enjoyed my thirty-fifth birthday. My morning was a little emotional but my the afternoon and evening I wasn’t feeling as bad as I was. My wonderful parents took me to lunch and I was able to go to dinner with some very close friends. We had great conversation, laughed all evening, and created some wonderful memories.

Cheers to turning another year older!

Birthday Celebration

Do any of you know any teenager who would want to celebrate their 15th birthday with a bunch of random orphans? You’d think any teen would be dying to do something outlandish for their birthday party. Presents, music, food, friends… Well, I know one pretty awesome girl who wanted nothing more than to celebrate her birthday with my litlle Tembisa Tots family in South Africa.  I recieved an email a few weeks ago from a mother who explained her daughter would love to have her birthday party at the orphanage with Mama and the kids! I was blown away with disbelieve and at the same time so excited to read the email.  Here’s Georgia and some of the Tembisa kids!  Image Georgia posted this on my Tembisa Facebook page:

“Yesterday I celebrated my 15th birthday with the amazing children at Tembisa Tots orphanage. I hope the children enjoyed THEIR party, and I can’t wait to see them again – soon! Thank you so much Mama for all you do for these children, you are truly an inspiration. Lots of love to Mama and to each and every one of those children, from Georgia.”

Thank you Georgia for sharing your special day with Mama and the kids! I hope you had a memorable birthday!

Kendyl Ruth Turns Seven…

I remember like it was yesterday. Giving birth to the most special person in my life! Kendyl Ruth! Kendyl was and has been the best little girl ever! I am so blessed to have her as my daughter. She makes me smile, laugh, cry, yell, think, forgive, understand things on so many levels, communicate, and she teaches me unconditional love.

Kendyl can make anyone smile. Her’s is contagious. Her big brown eyes are impossible to say no to and I love her cheeks! Her little hands are still tiny and have a baby toddler look and feel… I love to hold her hand in mine and we give each other tiny squeezes to tell each other we love each other. She has this circle birth mark by her ear where we agreed an angel kissed her… I love her little legs that are crooked like mine… and her tiny toes that always have jagged toe nails and are impossible to clip!

Kendyl is such a joy and I don’t know what I’d do without her. She drives me to be a better mom, friend, daughter and person.

Here are a handful of things about Kendyl Ruth:
1. Loves to draw. Kendyl truly has an artistic eye and is a born natural when it come to art; drawing free hand, coloring and mixing colors, and is a perfectionist!
2. Brain like a sponge! Kendyl can memorize everything! Reading, spelling, places, events, people, songs, you name it – she’ll remember! (she must get that from me) :)Kendyl loves school and comes home every day with a new song or story she’s learned from her class. I’m always learning something new from her.
3. Athletic ability. Kendyl is taking gymnastics right now and loves it. Her little body is built for sports. Swimming, gym, dancing, soccer, riding horses with her dad… she loves to do active things and catches on very quick.
4. Friends! All of you who know Kendyl knows she makes friends so easily! She adores her friends at school, cousins, and anyone new she meets. One of Kendyl’s teachers told me that if there was an award for socializing, Kendyl would win all the time. She’s a social butterfly.
5. Tender heart. Kendyl is such a sweet little girl. She cares about everyone and their feelings. If someone at school, in our family, her friend, she’ll do what she can to make them smile. Kendyl has been so concerned about the children in Haiti and wants to put together care packages to make sure they are taken care of.

Kendyl, K Star is the coolest seven year old I know. I’m so proud that she’s mine! Just thinking about her puts a smile on my face.

I love you Kendyl Ruth!

October 10th… My big 30…and plus some…

So here are a few moments of “catch up” in Sindee and Kendyl’s world. Currently, I think I’m dying. I’ve been sick for the past 5-6 days with “strep” but have recently developed a cough, continued body aches, constant headache, cold sweats, hot sweats, ear throbbing pain, one nostil is plugged thing, and it’s really making me mad! Hopefully I can get back to 100% so I can join the world of the living.
Here’s the run down on what we’ve been up to. Hold on to your pants!
1. Kendyl’s field trip to Utah’s Musem of Natural History!

Kendyl and this huge mammoth… she looks so tiny next to this thing!

2. National Talk Like A Pirate Day

Arg! My dearest friend Brittney and her hubby Mike threw a raggin’ party on National Talk Like A Pirate Day! Kendyl and I dressed up like pirates and had a ball!

Britt, Kendyl, and Mike! Such scary pirates!

Pete, my date!
Kendyl, Adam, and Avery! They were playing find the treasure, battling with swords, and eating lots of veggies (that’s what pirates eat!) They were so cute!

3. Ingrid Michaelson

I heart Ingrid. I saw her three summers ago and fell in love her! My friends Britt, Jeanette, Natalie, Brenda, and Emily got tickets and went to her show at In The Venue. She is so incredible. She is real, funny, and is a natural entertainer.
Unforunately, the venue has made the upstairs standing only, so Emily, being preggers, sat down stairs with Brenda while the rest of us stood up top. They still enjoyed the show, but I wish we could have all sat together….

Ingrid and her crew…

Don’t worry… if you’re feelin’ a little gasy? Natalie has the cure. That girls purse has it all! Who knew they made GasX in thin strips??

I’m really not upset, I was more worried I was going to drop my phone while taking this photo!

4. Finally, my big 30th

I think I’m the only one who throws themselves their own birthday party… but I love birthdays! And I love mine! I think my 30th celebration lasted about 4 days… and then some.
Friday I went shopping and to dinner with Blake… Delicious Cucina Toscana! Yummers! I love that place and it was such a fun night!
Saturday we had the fun bunny hops which was a downer, but it didn’t stop us from celebrating that night! A group of my close friends gathered at Settobellos! I love their Margarita pizza! I inhale that thing like the air we breath! After filling our bellies, we headed over to Keys on Main! Man, talk about a crazy time! All of my friends came from work, school, old, new, and just everyone I love was there to hang out!

Thanks to my PACT friends, Nappi and Steven, I got called up on stage… How embarrassing! It’s different if you can sing along to the song, dance a little, shake your bon bon… but when it’s a song you’ve never heard and they’re saying explicit language you wouldn’t want your mom to hear? That’s when I get embarrassed! I had a red boa and I’m pretty sure my face matched!

Thank goodness for Teisha! She saved my bacon! I couldn’t stand to be up there solo!
Sunday the Savage clan got together for my birthday dinner. Kendyl helped make cheese cake for my birthday cake!
I had a terrific 30th and am very excited for a new decade!

One more year to 30…

I celebrated my 29th birthday a few weeks ago – – I know, I’m finally getting around to posting! What do you expect when I have no internet! I have to borrow my brothers wireless and make sure it’s a weekend when K is with her dad so I have a few hours to play on the www…

My friend Erika and I share the same birthday, along with Jesse Wardle Brough and Melissa VanDyke Mitchell! Oh, and Jesse’s mom, Terry… and possibly Grandpa? There are a lot of peeps with the 10/10 birthday!

Erika and I decided to join Asian foreces and have a party. Erika and I cheered together at the University of Utah back in 1999? Man, that is forever ago! Our friends Brandon and Todd have a club house in the Fox Burrow so we had the birthday bash there! Here are a few photos from the part – eeee! Enjoy!

Dinner at Happy Sumo with the parentals… My dad even used chop sticks? Go Ron!

Before the party – yes… that’s me in a suit case… My friend Megs and Blake didn’t believe me when I said I could fit inside! I had to prove them wrong… I’m so compact!

My good friend Steven Wood…

I love these people! They take wonderful care of Kendyl and I. Eugenia and John Coram…

Nappi, Me, and Steven. We are the pact of all pacts. Group discussions, agendas, parties, advice, yelling, texting, and making sure we have a place for Sunday dinner…

Birthday girls! Erika and me! It’s crazy to think we were young and cheering for the U! We used to be so flexible 10 years ago! Man, that makes me sound old!

Life long friend Joshua Tripp! This kid trained me on the snowboard! Man he’s quick… thanks to Tripp I have my speed on the white wave! Megan J. Raphael is my best friend of all time! She and I have been through mud and sun together! Nelson B. is one of the coolest dudes around! He may be skinny and lean, but he’s got the biggest heart on the block!

Gotta have some brownies at the shin dig! We were the ethnic kids that evening… We have to represent!

Josh Branch and I went to school together and had planned on becoming news anchors together. But after soon realizing how crappy it would be to move to Idaho – we chose different career paths!

Let’s not forget to include the Rock Band photo! I rock! I should be in a band…
Special shout out to all my peeps who made my 29th memoriable and fun! Love you guys!

Happy Birthday Kendyl Ruth …

Who would have thought that I have a five year old? Holy cow how time flies! Kendyl Ruth Crittenden was born February 28, 2003 at 7:04 AM at Jordan Valley Hospital by Dr. Hansen. I was in labor for about 5 hours and had a wonderful labor! Kendyl came into this world bright eyed and smiling! She was the cutest little half Asian we’ve ever seen!

As the years pass, Kendyl has grown and grown. She started developing so quickly and learned how to survive in this crazy world! She had shown us how bright she was at such an early age and still amazes us with her intellect! I can’t believe she’s going to be a Kindergartner this fall!

Kendyl has always loved people. She is so friendly and fun to be around. She loves to smile and laugh… pull funny faces and make others happy. She loves being with her Grandparents and spending time with her cousins. She is an artist! Kendyl loves to draw, color, paint, and design new pictures everyday, every minute! I think she’ll turn into a wonderful artist.

Kendyl has always had a passion for music. She has been listening to it since she was in my belly! She loves to sing and has an amazing memory! She can listen to a song only a couple of times and then has it memorized! She blows my mind everyday!

I consider Kendyl one of the luckiest little girls ever. She has so many people who love her and take care of her. All of those individuals help make her who she is today. She is a beautiful girl and has such an incredible Spirit.

I am very lucky to call her my daughter… Happy Birthday Babe! I love you! – Mom
